Richard Liu Qiangdong Views On Brick-and-Mortar Businesses In 2019

Growth and expansion are the two most dominant terms in most corporate blueprints. Richard Liu Qiangdong, however, understands that achieving growth and expansion in the world of business is not an easy walk but a journey full of dedication and hard work. In the past five years, Liu has been on a journey to create a new business reality in China and Asia.

Liu Qiangdong is considered as among the top entrepreneurs in the e-commerce industry. After launching his first online retail website sometime in 2004, he founded his JD.com only a year later.

Through JD.com, Qiangdong has illustrated that expansion and growth in the e-commerce market are not farfetched. Richard Liu Qiangdong has also created employment opportunity for thousands of Chinese nationals, both direct and indirectly. He believes that his company’s contribution is because of the following factors.

First, he understands that for a business to make profits and progress in a certain market, it must solve some problems. When he was starting, Richard Liu Qiangdong realized that the market did not have a company that offered fast deliveries. Liu Qiangdong invested in a smooth and faster delivery system, which is still one of the best delivery systems in China. Although the company delivers 80% of all their goods on freight vans, the company is in the process of expanding its delivery unit. Richard Liu Qiangdong points out that the company is looking into possibilities of implementing drone deliveries and other related technologies.

Second, Liu realized that most companies in the early 2000s did not have clear policies on quality goods. Vagueness on quality goods led to the market being saturated with substandard goods. Richard Liu Qiangdong, however, gave consumer hope by encouraging and only selling high-quality goods. This precedent has changed the Chinese market, and according to pundits, more people prefer buying goods from online stores compared to physical stores. Also, he understands that physical stores still have space in the future. He is therefore in the final stages of bridging the gap between the offline businesses to online platforms.

Lastly, Liu is also passionate about empowering young talents. Apart from creating mentorship programs, he has mentored thousands of young people through job training. Liu encourages professionals to give young people a chance by mentoring them and nurturing them into the best business practices.

In an article on AACSB.edu, Liu was listed as one of the “Most Influential Leaders”. As a testament to Liu’s admirable business practices, he has received numerous national and international awards for his entrepreneurship, business influence, innovation, and leadership.
